When you stand at the edge of Harbor Town and gaze across the water, you’ll spot Daufuskie Island. Imagine a place nearly untouched by time. It’s only accessible by boat, and cars aren’t able to take the ferry ride over. Visitors grab a golf cart once they arrive, and they journey to their destination. This beautiful island is about 5 miles long, 2 miles wide. When you read stories of Lowcountry history, Daufuskie Island is exactly what comes to mind. When Mrs. Tracey reached out and mentioned they were taking a family vacation to Daufuskie Island, I couldn’t have been more excited! I was ready to hop on that ferry ride right then. This Daufuskie Island Family Session was something dreams are made of.
TJ and I hopped on the 7:00am ferry ride from Hilton Head over to the island. Sunrise sessions are a favorite of mine, and watching the sun rise over the water was a pretty good start to a Saturday morning. We met the Carroll family in the quaint little cottage they had rented for the week. I immediately noticed the huge Live Oak tree in the back yard. It was hundreds of years old and I’m sure if it could talk, it would tell amazing stories of that island’s history. It was a humid and hazy morning which quickly turned into a warm, bright and sunny day. We golf carted our way to the beach and walked in the sand, found a sailboat, they spent time together as a family.
I can honestly say it was the adventure of the summer!
