There is nothing that I love more than an heirloom bridal gown. Something about vintage lace that our grandmothers wore is so dreamy, romantic and full of rich history. This dress is one of those incredible stories. I was beyond excited when I heard from one of my elementary school friends– Krista. Her and I had both attended Wake Christian Academy, and our friend group was a close one based around our love of horses. Krista was planning her dream day with soon to be groom, Austin and she told me that she was going to wear her grandmother’s gown. My heart, you guys was SO full.
For her bridal session, we met at Morris Peaceland Farm in Raleigh. For an equestrian girl, this venue is what dreams are made of. The barn has been transformed into bridal and groom suites, a gorgeous reception site as well as the perfect ceremony location. And the best part about it? It’s home to horses still. And this incredible guy joined Krista’s session. The entire time, I kept telling Krista that her heirloom bridal gown looked just like a dress Disney Princess Belle would wear. So, when this sweet guy joined in for photos, what happens? The BEST princess photographs imaginable.
One of the even sweeter moments of this session? Krista’s grandmother was present at her session. She was able to see the gown she wore on her wedding day come to new life through her granddaughter. With tears in her eyes and sweet smiles and laughter, I know for sure that this was a family moment that they will cherish forever. That’s the importance of heirloom weddings. Bringing tradition, rich history and old love to combine with a brand new story. That’s what these moments are meant for.
